A visa refusal is the rejection of the application for a non-immigrant visa by the immigration authorities. The citizenship and migration authorities of Estonia fall under the Ministry of Interior which develops and implements policies related to the temporary stay and settlement in Estonia, citizenship policy, adaptation policy, and asylum policy.

The Estonian visa would cost you around 60 euros and it is always advised to apply for the same at the earliest to avoid any delays later on. The visa refusal rate of Estonia for the New Delhi Consulate is amongst the highest and it stood at 31.80% for the year 2017. (https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/india-among-top-five-countries-with-most-schengen-visa-application-in-2017/). It is thus very important to undertake the visa application process for this country very seriously.

Estonia is also a signatory to the Schengen agreement and thus has a common visa policy. Therefore, the reasons for visa refusal are also similar to those of a Schengen visa.

The most common factors are that documents submitted are incorrect or forged, the passport is invalid, the purpose of visit and the intention to return to the home country are not clear, the funds to cover the expenses are not sufficient, the past criminal records are not disclosed, the advice given by the visa agents proved to be wrong, the travel insurance is not covered, the applicant has a bad record for Schengen visa, an alert has been issued against the applicant and he/she is considered to be a threat by the Schengen Immigration Service (SIS).

The fee paid for visa application is non-refundable, the reasons for visa refusal are mentioned in the official refusal letter, and in case the visa has been denied then the applicant has can either appeal or re-apply.

The visa is annulled if the conditions for issuing it were not met at the time the decision was taken and a visa is revoked if the conditions are no longer met.

The appeal needs to be made to the Estonian Embassy within 30 days of the receipt of the refusal letter and the fee for processing the appeal is 20 Euros. The appeal needs to be filed in the format specified in the refusal letter.

In case the applicant has no grounds for filing an appeal he/she needs to re-apply after meeting the reasons for refusal.

Estonia which was formerly a part of the Soviet Union is renowned for its castles, churches, and rooftop fortresses. The country has a high rate of visa application and an equally high rate of visa refusal. It is usually observed that the visa was denied as the applicant did not understand as to what the officers wanted and so it is always advised to contact the qualified visa agents beforehand.
