A visa refusal is the rejection of the application for a non-immigrant visa by the immigration authorities.

Hungary’s immigration authorities are called the Office of Immigration and Nationality and are responsible for the immigration policies, visa application, and refusal services. (http://www.bmbah.hu/index.php?lang=en). The Hungarian visa would cost you 60 euros and the visa application process can take up to four weeks. Hungary is a signatory to the Schengen Agreement.

The most common factors for visa refusal are that the correct travel documents are not submitted, the purpose of visit and the intention to return are not clear, the funds for stay in Hungary are not sufficient, the applicant has a history visa refusal, the applicant is considered to be a threat to the national security or an alert has been issued in the Schengen Information System (SIS) or the client was not able to justify the visit over telephonic/ personal interview. The Hungarian consulate had a 17.20 % refusal rate in 2017.

The solutions for visa refusal are that the applicant can either appeal or file for a fresh application.

The appeal can be filed if the applicant has valid reasons to appeal against the decision of the immigration authorities. The appeal against the refusal of the visa needs to be filed within 8 days of the receipt of the refusal letter and the appeal against the annulment or revocation of the visa needs to be filed within 3 days of the receipt of the letter. The appeal should be filed in the correct format with the competent Hungarian Consulate.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is required to convey the decision of the appeal within 15 days and in case of annulment or revocation, the decision is communicated within 5 days.

If the applicant has no valid reasons for appealing against the decision, he/she will have to file for a fresh application after meeting all the reasons for visa refusal.

The process of obtaining the Schengen visa is not a child’s play and due importance should be given to the application and interview procedures. The advice of the qualified advisors can ensure that the chances of obtaining the visa are high and in case of refusal, the right step is taken by the applicant.
